Leave the bustle of daily life behind and immerse yourself in the tranquillity of a picturesque Cape Peninsula forest with a forest bathing experience.
This unique regenerative journey through nature is the conscious and contemplative practice of being immersed in the sights, sounds and natural, earthy fragrances of a forest.
Scientific research in Japan has found evidence suggesting that terpenes (the molecules responsible for the unique aromas of trees – their essential oils) have a proven, direct and measurable effect on the body, Forest Bathing Cape Town explains, and this age-old practice of being quiet and still in a forest allows the energy of nature to calm your mind and feed your soul.
In Cape Town specifically, guests are taken to safe, scenic trails in Cape Peninsula forests, and are guided to relax, awaken their senses, and take part in a guided meditation.
A highly experienced hiker named Evelyn John and a skilled yoga teacher and mindfulness guide named Hilary have teamed up to offer these spectacular forest bathing experiences as they discuss the healing power of nature as well as exploring the ‘Wood Wide Web’ of forests, mycelium and mushrooms.
The experience ends with a brief yoga practice guided by Hilary, followed by honey and ginger tea, and a relaxing stroll back ‘home’.
Open to anyone older than 15-years, forest bathing group sizes are kept to a maximum of 10 and no fitness level is required. You’ll only be expected to walk short distances (3–5 kms) to get from the car park to the forest venues and back.
