The Mother Soup facility can now continue with their soup production efforts after Lumenlabs™, Woodstock Brewery, and Great Commission United (GCU) joined forces to create a COVID-19 ‘safe-zone’ at the location by installing a new technological device called the Lumenizer as an additional measure to protect staff and volunteers from COVID-19.
This revolutionary technology that was donated uses human safe filtered UVC light that reportedly kills 99.9% of all pathogens, including COVID-19. By installing these at the Mother Soup production facility will help to safeguard those who distribute the soup and other essential food items to over 80 charitable organisations, including schools and orphanages throughout the Cape Town metropolitan area.
The Mother Soup Initiative was established during South Africa’s first lockdown in 2020 when owner of The Woodstock Brewery, Andre Viljoen, realised that his brewery could be re-purposed to provide nutritious meals to Cape Town’s hungry in a desperate time of need. Since then, the initiative has provided more than 5 million meals to Cape Town’s needy.
“We have made it through many challenges in keeping this initiate alive, relying on our amazing corporate and individual donors and the hard work of our staff and volunteers, now with this amazing donation from Lumenlabs, we can rest a bit easier knowing that our facility has this additional layer of protection so we can keep this important project going — we believe we are making a real difference in people’s lives”, said Viljoen.
