A recent addition to the hustle and bustle of Battery Park is a CrossFit box. With doors wide open, the studio incorporates its surroundings perfectly. CrossFit is essentially a workout that exercises every muscle in the body. Using a combination of functional exercises, you are guaranteed to feel satisfied with your workout.

Upon arrival at Battery Park CrossFit you are welcomed by trainer Dean Peters and given a break-down of the class. As a first-timer, I had no idea what to expect which made the experience that much more epic.

The state-of-the-art technology may seem intimidating at first, but CrossFit is the complete opposite.

I was pleasantly surprised to find my assumption that you have to be the fittest person on Earth to complete a CrossFit session was wrong. The warm up nearly killed me, but pushing your limits is what CrossFit is all about.

I attended the intro class, which was on par with my fitness level and I can highly recommend it for beginners. The attention to form was amazing and focus is placed on getting the exercise right, rather than how many reps you can do.

CrossFit is also designed to accommodate your comfortability. If you have an injury of sorts and can’t do one of the exercises, there is an alternative option. It’s all about listening to your body and doing what you feel is right.

The camaraderie at this CrossFit box is unmatched. Dean Peters is a master of the craft. He is encouraging and attentive and keeps you motivated throughout the hour-long class.

Battery Park CrossFit is not just limited to the studio and outdoor equipment. They have designed an across-the-board exercise regime. Yoga, guided hikes, park runs, water workouts, gymnastics, weightlifting and endurance are all a part of this CrossFit box. The team have also collaborated with SUP Cape Town to take your workout to the canals.
