Cape Town’s favourite and largest soup kitchen will be taking up an exciting and life changing challenge this Mandela Day.

To celebrate Mandela Day, the Ladles of Love team will be attempting to make 125 000 sandwiches in just one hour, breaking a World Record and feeding people in need across Cape Town.

Eager volunteers from Cape Town can join in the fun and be part of the record breaking team in partnership with SASKO and Rhodes Quality Jam.

The soup kitchen shared their goal on their social media pages and encouraged those wanting to make a difference to join the team.

According to founder Danny Diliberto, the Guinness World Record for most sandwiches made in an hour stands at around 57 000, while the South African record made last year is roughly 107 000 and Ladles of Love is aiming for 125 00 sandwiches in one hour.

A link will soon be available on the Ladles of Love Facebook page where residents can register for their sandwich making kit and join in on this momentous occasion that will not only raise awareness for the soup kitchen but help to feed thousands of hungry mouths.

Diliberto asks all who can to join in the record breaking attempt and to help Ladles of Love make a difference this Mandela Day.

The link for joining the World Record attempt and registering for your free sandwich making kit is now live:
