I have long been a fan of the Folk Café that calls busy and bustling Bree Street its home, so when I heard one of my favorite eateries was opening a new store right next to St. James Beach, I couldn’t wait to try it out and no doubt it did not disappoint.

As we walked along the breezy street next to the train tracks leading to all the usual spots we visit in Kalk Bay, the distant shouts of joy from children playing at St. James Beach and the rattling of the train as it passes were familiar and welcoming.

As we pass by the busy beach we notice the old post office building we had so often passed by had been transformed into a welcoming restaurant. Just a few metres from the iconic multicolored changing rooms, Folk Café serves up strong coffee and a variety of foodie pleasures.

The menu offers something for everyone with both decadent meat eater’s options such as Korean Chicken Wings and Steak Tagliata, and something for veggie-lovers with their delicious Cauliflower Steaks and Vegetarian Wrap packed with avocados.

This quant eatery also has the perfect outside seating area for families or animal lovers. A fun garden setting allows parents to enjoy the shade and kids to explore the beachside jungle gym. Those visiting with their furry friends can find comfort in having their pets by their side while they enjoy a hearty meal.

While visiting Folk, I highly recommend saving enough space for one of their fresh baked goods as well as a coffee to wash it down with, their cappuccino and chocolate croissant filled with rich sauce left me with a warm feeling as I made my way home.

Folk Café’s new location is not only perfect for locals but also visitors to the Cape as it is just a short walk from the many attractions Kalk Bay has to offer as well as convenient for travel being right next to the train station.
