Last weekend, Butter All Day, a tiny yellow gem in Loop Street, celebrated its first birthday. If you don’t know what Butter is all about, here’s a little insight into what may soon be your next favourite cafe.
Butter All Day is easily one of the most delightful pick-me-ups in the City, writes Cape {town} Etc’s Ashleigh Nefdt. With an adorable little ducko as its mascot, breakfast served round the clock (because really, is there ever a bad time to enjoy breakfast?) a dog-friendly setting and some of the most creatives imaginings of breakfast, brunch and foodie options to choose from, it’s hard for this place not to be the ray of sunshine you’ve been looking for.
As for the buttery thread that ties the restaurant together, it’s certainly more than just a catchy name. Buttered mielies, popcorn, toast, flapjacks and scones are all on the cards. As Butter says, “literally everything is better with butter,” and they aren’t wrong.
Beyond the aesthetics, lively atmosphere and upbeat music that sings to your experience, Butter’s food is succinctly put – joyful. From their presentation to taste, the meals are comforting in the kind of way the sun shining on your back lightly is.
My top recommendations are the hash brown stack (which comes with crispy bacon, avo, perfect poached eggs and peppadews), the Buttermilk Blues (divine buttermilk flapjacks with homemade blueberry coulis and crème Fraiche) and the Butter Burger (complemented by sriracha mayo sauce, white cheddar, a delicious buttery beef patty and the kind of bun all buns aspire to be).
Don’t forget to pair any order up with a delicious mimosa or cappuccino.
You can find Butter All Day at 70 Loop St in the CBD – and if you aren’t sure it’s the right spot, you’ll know you’ve made it thanks to the pastel yellow and pink walls, and the people outside who look how you’re trying to feel: better in a buttery way.
