Cape Town is known for its culinary prowess, evidenced by the multitudes of awards restaurants in the Mother City have won over the years. A local gem has been awarded yet another accolade, this time for being among the top fine dining restaurants in the world.

La Colombe at Silvermist in Constantia has ranked at number 13 on TripAdvisor’s list of ‘Best Fine Dining Restaurants in the World’. It is the only restaurant in Africa to score a place on the list.

This list falls under TripAdvisor’s ‘Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Awards’, and it made based on the reviews and ratings of TripAdvisor users. This means that the ranking is customer-determined.

“Every year, we pull together all the reviews, ratings, and saves that travellers share from across the globe — and use that info to spotlight the very best. The Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best awards celebrates them all,” explains TripAdvisor.

La Colombe is honoured to have made the list, and took to social media to express their excitement.

“Number 1 in Africa, and Number 13 in the world! Thank you to TripAdvisor and everyone who has dined with us – we are thrilled to be ranked among the Best Fine Dining Restaurants World in the 2020 Travellers’ Choice Awards, with this feedback, “Can I award six stars? I will have to find a thesaurus to adequately describe the food. The service was also beyond fault””, they write in a Facebook post.

La Colombe serves up contemporary French-meets-Asian fusion fine-dining cuisine. In 2019, they were named the best restaurant in South Africa by Eat Out.

They have reopened under lockdown regulations for sit-down dining, and are currently offering guests a Dine-In Experience every day until the end of September – and every Thursday for guests in Somerset West and Stellenbosch. All proceeds go directly towards keeping their teams afloat during these challenging months.
