Locals waited with baited breathe as President Cyril Ramaphosa announced details of the country moving to Level 3 from June 1. Many had high hopes that the ban on cigarettes would be lifted, especially a particular grandmother from Cape Town.
This little old lady from the Mother City has recently become very popular on social media after a video of her reacting to the cigarette ban made its way to Twitter.
In the video, she can be seen excitedly waiting for news on whether she will be able to purchase cigarettes soon. At first she appears optimistic but once the President announces the ban will remain in place, she reacts in much the same way many other smokers out there would.
For many, the video is relatable and familiar when thinking of our own family members or friends who hoped the ban would finally be lifted.
Unfortunately it seems the ban will remain in place, at least for the rest of Level 3.
