The weather has been unbearably hot in the Cape as many flocked to the beaches to cool down this past weekend, while others used innovative methods of lying down on the cold tiles as a way to bring some relief.
And if you’ve been dreaming of cooler days and wishing that the sun would take it easy, your wish has been answered as the SA Weather Service has predicted a cooler week for areas in and around Cape Town.
This comes after temperatures surpassed 40-degrees in some regions outside of Cape Town and towns like Paarl and Stellenbosch received Fire Danger Index (FDI) above 75.
The City of Cape Town also had a busy week as 235 vegetation fires were recorded, including the blaze on Ou Kaapse Weg, in addition to 48 residential fires (22 formal residential and 26 informal residential).
Beaches like Strandfontein and Muizenberg were packed due to Cape Town’s hectic heatwave, and the SA Weather Service issued an extreme heat/heatwave advisory which said that residents can expect a “very hot weekend” with yellow level 2 warning for waves.
But the good news is that the highest temperature is expected to reach 26-degrees with cloudy to clear skies predicted from Tuesday, 25 January to Friday, 28 January.
