Two non-negotiable elements mapping out the future, are education and sustainability. Pairing these two is an ‘eco creche’ in Delft, which has been the labour of love for Peter McIntosh and his team.
The Ulwazi Educare centre has been built using almost every sustainable and eco-friendly measure possible. Its building has included car tyres, cob, waste materials from the film industry, window frames and glass bottles in brick form, as Peter McIntosh explains.
It’s taken 7 months and is close to its completion which will provide a learning environment for 120 preschoolers built with the earth in mind.
Art is set to grace the walls with murals to add more obvious creativity to the space.
Peter founded Natural Building Collective, which has also done work on the Helderberg Nature Reserve as per GoodThingsGuy.
Last year, the Helderberg Nature Reserve got a fabulous addition with an eco-friendly Environment Learning Centre. With the thought of construction’s usual terrible impact on the environment at the forefront, the City of Cape Town navigated a green construction plan – something that is a game-changer for many industries.

And, with innovation like that of Peter and his team, the future is certainly looking a lot brighter in sustainable endeavours.
