The country’s top cats gathered in the Mother City over the weekend for the 29th annual SA Cat Council’s Cat of the Year contest.

Called the “supermodels of the feline world” the contestants were judged in four categories and the top achievers in each, from five regions across the country, were selected to participate in the prestigious competition, reports SABC News.

There were 30 entire (breeding) cats, 30 neuter cats, 8 household domestic cats and 13 kittens that are assessed. A panel of 10 international experts from the World Cat Congress judged the competition this year.

The judges were allowed 4 minutes per cat to decide on the overall winner. The winner of the title can only be selected from the neuter or entire cats. Each category however does receive a winner that is chosen from all the participating felines.

The winner of this year’s title was announced on Saturday July 27 at a gala dinner. The title of Cat of the Year was awarded to a male Burmese feline, named Supreme Premier Pear l – It’s A Done Deal. His owner, Rita Wiseman from Port Elizabeth, was ecstatic with the win and attributes the triumph to his ‘amazing personality.’
