Summer is slowly fading into the foggy distance and giving way to later sunrises and misty mornings. The leaves are changing and those blistering temperatures are slowly dipping – it’s official – “Winter is coming. ”
While the start of the chilly season may mean extra layers and thick boots, you don’t have to trade in those hiking boots just yet.
If you’re keen on celebrating the last rays of summer, check out these incredible sunrise spots. Bonus! You get to sleep in a little.
Lion’s Head
While we try and steer away from the obvious, Lion’s Head IS an obvious choice for those looking to enjoy a dazzling sunrise. Make sure you get there early as things can get quite packed, especially on weekends.
Blouberg Beach
A little wind never killed anybody, right? Blouberg Beach is a stunning location for surfers and sun-chasers, coupled with a clear view of Table Mountain (weather permitting) it really is the perfect spot to catch the sunrise or sunset. Once your mission is complete, make sure you check out a few of the delicious breakfast restaurants in the area.
Cape Point Nature Reserve
The early bird catches the sunrise… and that’s certainly the case when watching the sunrise above the horizon. For those who don’t call the deep South home, this can be a little bit of a journey, so getting there early is always a great idea. Plus, this could help you skip the crowds and enjoy the utter tranquillity that this area has to offer. Just you, a sunrise and a few baboons – no biggie.
Table Mountain
Not feeling a trek up Lions Head, Table Mountain is the next best thing. Unfortunately, depending on the season, the first car up is usually 8:00am which could mean a missed sunrise. No worries! Lace up those hiking boots and start walking because Table Mountain offers some incredible trails for those looking to get sweating and enjoy the beauty of Mother Nature.
Camps Bay Tidal Pool
Fancy a swim? Camps Bay Tidal Pool is the perfect spot to enjoy an icy morning swim and watch the sunrise – the perfect combination! The best part is that you’d be able to soak up the sun on the white-sandy beach, again, weather permitting, of course.
