The Mother City’s bustling central business district (CBD) has been named among the 50 coolest neighbourhoods in the world by Time Out.

The popular Time Out “50 coolest neighbourhoods in the world” list looks beyond the usual sights and tourist attractions of a city, and instead finds the hippest, most trendy, neighbourhoods around the world where visitors can stay, eat, drink and hang out.

Places that made the coveted list were labeled as, “areas that should be on everyone’s travel bucket list right now”. It was compiled from the answers of over 15 000 people who completed a “City Life Index Survey”. The questionnaire enquired about the area with cool new venues opening, the affordability to live there and whether it is a great place to stay for someone visiting the city. Most importantly, does it feel like a place that’s on the up?

A definitive list of the planet’s most cultural and culinary hotspots – the places to be in 2018 – was born from this list.

The top 5 on the list were:

  1. Embajadores, Madrid
  2. Euljiro, Seoul
  3. Nueva Villa de Aburrá, Medellin
  4. Metaxourgeio, Athens
  5. Princípe Real, Lisbon

The Cape Town CBD featured at number 21 in the world, alongside world-class  cities like Tokyo, New York and Amsterdam.

The City Bowl District cracked the nod thanks to our amazing natural wonders like Table Mountain, Lion’s Head and Signal Hill, but also for our phenomenal restaurants.

The CBD’s interesting collection of bars and stores that line trendy streets like Long Street and Bree Street helped solidity the 21st spot.

Aside from Cape Town’s top notch swag, convenience is of high importance – with all fun amenities only a 20 minute walk within the city centre.

Overall, we received high praise for being a buzzing hub of everything good to eat, do, see, drink and even places to stay. And we couldn’t agree more!
