We’ve always had a hunch that mermaids are real, and as it turns out, Cape Town is home to a very special one. Zandi Ndhlovu, AKA Zandi the Mermaid, is recognised as being the first Black African freedive instructor in South Africa. Join Oceaneers and this brilliant, blue-haired woman on 5 February for an an ocean-infused evening.
Zandi is the freediving instructor and conservationist behind the Black Mermaid Foundation. Having previously started her own Diversity & Inclusion, Human Resources and IR consultancy, Zandi was quick to recognise the lack of representation within the white-dominated ocean/freediving space and has since made it her mission to inspire and motivate people of all backgrounds to get into the ocean…
Joining Zandi on stage is Roushanna Gray from Veld and Sea. Roushanna is leading the charge in the foraging movement. Inspired by nature as a true provider, Roushanna started Veld and Sea to provide people with the opportunity to reconnect with nature.
These local change-makers are working towards reconnecting humans with their natural world — an important message that is needed to create a sense of compassion toward nature and to help inspire conservation.
As always, Oceaneers is teaming up with some amazing brand partners to host an evening of inspiring ocean talks, good vibes, great food, and a chance to connect with like-minded ocean-loving individuals. Get excited to indulge in some Thank Goodness Foods goodies and sip on some crisp Jack Black beer. Local is so lekker.
Tickets start from R100 for Oceaneers or R150 for the general public. Both tickets include one free drink. To join the cause and get your discounted ticket, take the pledge and sign up to become an Oceaneer today.
Oceaneers is a community-driven initiative created by two ocean lovers who wanted to inspire others to see that the biggest positive impact they could make to ocean sustainability was to change their food choices. The group runs like a family, whereby all are welcome to begin a happier, healthier, more sustainable life. All for the ocean, of course!
Set up in classic Muizenberg market style, the bar will be running and food vendors will be set up to provide guests with refreshments throughout the evening. Pull in, kick back and enjoy the evening as Oceaneers and co-hosts tackle some of the important issues within ocean-conservation.
