Locals will have the opportunity to cook alongside legendary Australian MasterChef runner-up of 2017, Ben Ungermann as he returns to tour South Africa to give his exclusive masterclasses.

Ungermann says he is looking forward to visiting South Africa again.

“I am delighted that I will now get to visit Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth. I can’t wait to try out more fantastic culinary establishments. I also can’t wait to meet new faces and present a new series of masterclasses.”

Ungermann was a runner-up in Australian MasterChef 2017, where he discovered his love and talent for desserts. Named the ‘Ice Cream King’ by his fans, Ungermann and his brother Danny started up the Ungermann Brothers retro ice cream parlor in Ipswich, Australia.

The two-hour masterclasses will be held at Capsicum Culinary Studio campuses in Cape Town, Pretoria, Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth, and Durban in March.

Three different classes will be presented by Ungermann, the “Whole Chicken” masterclass where attendees will learn how to take apart and use every part of the chicken, a fish masterclass which covers how to fillet and cook fish to perfection each time and with a dessert masterclass which will feature Ungermann’s signature dishes, including his unique ice cream recipe.

Ungermann has travelled the world sharing his trade secrets and tips on how to create delicious dishes, from Japan to England. Working alongside some of the world’s best chefs such as Yotam Ottolenghi and Clare Smyth, Ungermann has established a name for himself in the industry.

His food style can be described as rustic with a hint of sophistication and lots of unique flavour combinations.

Capsicum Managing Director Renee Hill said that tickets sold out at his previous classes in the country.

“We are thrilled to welcome back Ben this year. We were sold out in Pretoria last year and have had numerous requests to bring him back on a nationwide culinary tour. We are delighted that Ben will be giving masterclasses at our schools.”

Tickets for the class cost R950 per person and can be purchased here.
