It’s cosy season in the Cape, which means that anywhere with a fireplace, hearty food and drinks, quaint atmospheres and the warmth of joyful energy are all on our radars.
While many bars in Cape Town are renowned for their aesthetics, views and delicious cocktails, we can’t ignore the all-important ingredient – summer – that adds to these experiences. However, there’s no need to stare at your calendar wishing for warmer days. There’s a whole world of winter favourites Cape Town, and here are some for you to try out in town– bar hopping style.

Filled with curiosities (from the decor to the people and beverages) it’s a killer gem for a cosy night out. If you haven’t tried its Espresso Martini yet, you’re in for a real kicker of a treat.

4. Moveable Feast
The Moveable Feast, a certified favourite for locals in town is one snazzy spot for nostalgic souls. It does, after all take it name after a book by Ernest Hemingway. The plush red chairs, Persian carpets and candle-lit atmosphere ooze romance, and you’d be forgiven for thinking you stepped into a film from decades gone by. However, Moveable can go from a charming dinner spot to a swanky groove in a matter of a few hours, so if you’re ready to join the feast, make sure you book.

On the other, it’s also acclaimed worldwide, winning a spot on the World’s Best Bar list in 2020 and 2021. 6.The Village Idiot
This vintage-style neighbourhood bar and restaurant is known for being one of Cape Town’s favourite watering holes and dance floors. Village, as it’s affectionately called is cosy for two reasons – firstly, it’s almost always bustling with life, and secondly, it has a resident fireplace that makes for the perfect winter bar-hop setting.
Village is conveniently located in the inner city and is the perfect venue for anyone looking for a night out, a place to watch the game, or even a first date spot.
Both the drinks and food are excellent and if you’re lucky enough to be sitting near the fireplace on a not-so-busy night you’ll be served marshmallows to skew on sticks and roast over the fire too.
