If you’re searching for a feel-good story, one that includes generosity and benevolence at its finest, then this is it!
Simply Asia in Durbanville was in for a big surprise after a loyal customer left a generous tip of R500 to each staff member on duty, which came to a total of R6 000!
The customer’s bill only came to R453, so you can imagine how joyful the staff members must have been after that gleaming number 6 was added in front.
Restaurants suffered a massive blow during the level 4 lockdown, and this gesture was an amazing way to uplift the spirits of those who have been severely affected.
The popular Asian Fusion restaurant expressed their gratitude on Facebook after posting a snapshot of the bill, adding that they are “grateful for the generous contribution made to the store and staff during these difficult times.”
The comments have been flooding in since as one user said it “gives me hope in humanity again” while another expressed that “It just shows you that there [are] people out there that care for other people.”
Even though thousands have called it a “generous” act of kindness, one user directed attention to hearing “a rumour that the all restaurant shift managers take a portion of tips left for waiters.” Simply Asia was quick to debunk this comment, and responded to it by saying “That’s not how we roll.” The restaurant was backed by a supporter who said “Not at simply asia they [don’t do] that, use to work for them.”
We are inspired by the generous, kind-hearted people living amongst us in Cape Town, and we encourage those who are by the means to help people and communities in need, to do so. Whether it’s by supporting a business, leaving a tip, donations or even just sharing someone’s page on social media – a little goes a long way.
