Boschendal welcomes the crisp, golden hues of winter in the Winelands with a mouth-watering selection of authentic farm experiences during this year’s Boschendal Citrus Festival.
Tamara Patel, chief marketing officer at Boschendal, says: ‘Our farmers have been hard at work all year, nurturing and tending to our citrus harvest, and our orchards are now bursting with delicious, sustainably-farmed citrus fruit.
Our Citrus Festival is a celebration of the bounty of our orchards and we invite our guests to enjoy a range of authentic experiences this winter and the opportunity to live our farm their way.’
The Boschendal Citrus Festival 2023 will take place from 15 June to 30 July, with a range of special events and farm activities to suit every taste.
Citrus Picking Experience
On Saturday, 24 June, and Saturday, 15 July, guests are invited to join Boschendal’s expert farming team on an authentic Citrus Picking Experience in the farm’s historic orchards.
There are several time slots available each day, offering guided groups the chance to pick fresh, sustainably-grown citrus. Costs are R80 per person which includes a bottle of water and 1kg of citrus to take home, any additional citrus will be charged at R25 per kilogram.
Spaces are limited so booking for the orchard pickings is essential.
In addition, Boschendal is hosting a morning market next to the orchards on both dates, with a selection of delicious, citrus-inspired food, award-winning Boschendal wines, as well as a selection of clothing and jewellery stalls, with tractor rides and face painting for kids.
Entrance is free and all are welcome.
Squeeze, Zest and Preserve Workshop
On Saturday, 22, and Saturday, 29 July, guests can take part in the Squeeze, Zest and Preserve Workshop, where Brenda from Brenda’s Preserves will teach the finer art of using farm-fresh citrus to make glühwein, marmalade, cordial and more.
The workshops will be hosted at the Olive Press and run from 10am to 2pm. Costs are R950 per person, including all ingredients, a snack and welcome drink, and a take home gift.
Space is limited to 30 people per class, so book now to secure a spot.
