South Africa’s borders are officially open, and the first international flight has already landed in the Mother City.

The Emirates EK772 flight from Dubai touched down in Cape Town on Thursday [October 1], the first non-repatriation international flight to do so in six months since the lockdown began in late March.

To honour the occasion, the plane was welcomed by a traditional water salute. This is the first water salute in the city since the drought.

Travellers aboard the flight were treated to a uniquely South African welcome, made even more lively by the Kaapse Klopse.

On Wednesday, the names of countries not allowed to enter South Africa were announced, these include the UK and America.
