SANParks Honourary Rangers descended upon the wooden boardwalk and stones in and around the Newlands Forest, as vandalism is a problem that runs rampant within the jurisdiction of South African National Parks.

Vandalism and littering are explicitly stipulated to be banned within all SANParks parks, and the Honourary Rangers took it upon themselves to scrape and clean the bright graffiti off benches and rails.

According to SANParks spokesperson Reynold “Rey” Thakhuli, rangers have the authority to arrest any visitors caught vandalising. Thereafter, the perpetrator will be handed over to South African Police Services (SAPS) officers. The ranger will appear in court as well to testify as a witness.

Thakhuli added that cases of arson are also rife within SANParks parks.
