On Tuesday November 30, the Cart Horse Protection Association will host an eight-hour livestream to raise funds for abused and neglected horses that are currently stabled at their Recovery and Rehabilitation Centre (R&R) in Firlands, Gordon’s Bay.

The R&R has been operating since 2008 as a place of safety for horses that have been confiscated or signed over out of the carting industry. The centre currently houses 33 horses and they are expertly looked after by five grooms and Adoptions and Stable Yard Coordinator, Carmen Berry.

Each year the world kicks off the giving season with Giving Tuesday, which this year falls on November 30. #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fuelled by the power of social media and collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following the widely recognised shopping events #BlackFriday and #CyberMonday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.

Cart Horse Protection Association is using this day of giving to raise funds for the R&R. They need to raise R300 000 — that is R9090 per horse — to ensure the best care for these horses going forward.

CHPA Fundraiser Karin Paschen will be doing a marathon sponsor stable event via livestream from the R&R where she will be entertaining viewers with stories about each of these 33 horses, how they came to be at the R&R and what they get up to.
