What makes any spot a budding hidden gem in Cape Town? Is it an unexpected location? The treasures in the form of tasty tapas, treats and cocktail specials that will have you feeling spoilt? Maybe it’s the mystery of neon lights illuminating an area you thought you knew pretty well or the hum of music that’ll have your ears perking up, ready to follow the piper.
In the case of Brew, it’s all of the above.
Gorgeous cafe by day and fabulous bar by night – Brew serves the best of both worlds.
Now, unlike much of Cape Town’s bar scene, Brew steps away from the bustle of the city and the busied energy of beach bars. Its home lies in De Waterkant/ Green Point area of the Mother City – an area they’re serving up a tall glass of energy to.
Nestled amongst some of De Waterkant’s well-established spots on Preswich Street, the owners of Brew extended their Rockwell Luxury Suites’ space to give people a new and vibrant watering hole to gather around. Doors close by 9 pm where Brew says goodnight and wishes you well, wherever the night may take you.
My own experience visiting the spot was in one word, refreshing, writes Cape {town} Etc’s Ashleigh Nefdt. What bliss it was to have space to move and dance (to a DJ who actually sings over his beats no less), an outdoor dining experience stripped of the endless noise that town culture ensues, and prices that my purse could be forgiving of. The service was as wonderful as the vibes.
Sitting underneath what will likely soon become an icon neon light tag in the form of Brew’s ‘Hey Gorgeous‘ lights, I thought of how many people will love this spot for the aesthetics too.
The Brew owners tell me that their goal is to add vibrance to the area, and I have no doubt that this spot will become a new favourite.
