I couldn’t imagine life without a scrumptious beef burger from my favourite burger joint and the thought alone is enough to leave me with sweaty palms, writes Cape {town} Etc‘s Lynn Cupido.
A good chunk of my family are either vegetarian or vegans, so I’ve familiarised myself with all the plant-based bacon and chicken brands. There have been a few moments when meat became the enemy, especially when my skin would break out in pimples.
Going meatless never lasted though. The lack of taste and flavour that came with certain products were enough to steer me away from anything plant-based, including restaurants.
Imagine my surprise when I sat down to eat at Infinite Cafe, a quaint restaurant that offers a delicious plant-powered kitchen smack dap in the heart of the Mother City. If all plant-based dishes taste like this, then meatless Mondays are becoming a thing in my household.
The setting alone is enough to leave you coming back for more. An abundance of plants and a greenhouse-esque feel left me feeling as though I was dining in the middle of a forest – the perfect spot to try some delicious plant-based foods.
I came at the right time too as Infinite Foods has just launched Upton’s Naturals, a plant-based meat alternative company that’s rolling out a delicious range of foods, including their Seitan Bacon, Chorizo Crumbles and Traditional Chunks. To help celebrate, the restaurant is offering a 3-item menu special until the end of February.
Everything on the menu is plant-based, so you can imagine my meat-loving brain being a little apprehensive when the food started rolling out of the kitchen. First on the list is the best breakfast stack I have ever consumed. This is not an exaggeration – it was good.
This little slice of heaven is stacked with Upton’s bacon and a few other goodies that are brought together with two fluffy pancakes. Creamy Chorizo Pasta and a Summer Zinger Bacon Salad, all made with the latest offerings from Upton’s Naturals left my inner food critic doing a happy dance and me having to roll out of the Infinite Cafe.
The cherry on top, however, is the price. Delicious plant-based dishes have a reputation for being expensive, and while this is true, this menu is anything but with nothing over R80. Talk about plant power!
The verdict? This is a winner. If you’re looking to impress your plant-based loving friends and family, or simply looking for a delicious lunchtime spot, Infinite Cafe is a must!
