Following a proposal by Executive Manager Des Easom, the Western Province Motor Club recently made available a trackside building at Killarney International Raceway free of charge as a dedicated prayer room for the Muslim members of its Killarney family.
The project was driven by a prominent member of the local Muslim community, Mr Nieyaaz Modack, who refurbished the premises at his own expense for the purpose, complete with carpeting and wudhu facilities.
The prayer room was inaugurated with Jummah on Friday 4 March, making Killarney as far as is known, the only motorsport venue in South Africa with such a facility. The prayer room is available to competitors, crew members and, on main circuit Race Days, spectators.
Make sure you contact Terri Philander at (021) 557-1639 for the keys to the facility.
