If Sky Villa Boutique Hotel is the classy and elegant sister in the Cape Summer Villas family, then the Bungalow must be its laid-back brother. Situated a few metres from the beach and surrounded by towering tropical trees, staying at the Bungalow in Plettenberg Bay will leave you feeling as though you’ve been transported to Bali.
Rejuvenation is one word that comes to mind when I think of this property, writes Cape {town} Etc’s Lynn Cupido. The fresh ocean breeze, the tranquil sounds of the crashing waves in the distance, and a choice of mouth-watering tropical-inspired cocktails had me jumping for joy throughout my stay.
I imagine this is what Goldilocks felt like when she finally found the perfect bed to sleep on – not too much and not too little. It feels like a 5-star property, offering luxurious amenities and incredible service, but it doesn’t leave you feeling like you need to slip into a suit and tie. Instead, I found myself devouring a platter of sushi all while chilling in a hoodie and flip flops.
It’s located in one of the best spots in Plett. It’s a stone’s throw away from Hobie Beach with plenty of seaside activities to get up to, including swimming with the seals and jet-skiing.
The property comprises seven sea-facing luxuriously furnished rooms with en-suite. Each room is beautifully designed, bringing the beach-vibe indoors and offering a carefully curated style that’s not too over the top. Comfort and style is what you’re in for when booking a stay here, something which extends to the restaurant and communal area.
Take a dip in the trendy plunge pool before heading to the upper deck to bask in the sun and grab a few drinks – a location that provides incredible views of the bay area. The Bungalow also offers a sprawling lower deck restaurant with good foods, a good vibe, and more great views.
Views are on the menu, but so is an array of incredible dishes. No beach stay is complete without munching on some out-of-this-world sushi, and The Bungalow has some of the best I’ve tried in a long time – fresh, bursting with flavour and just all-around yum. They also have a couple of woodfired pizza options that looked delicious, along with juicy burgers to dig into. However, the syrup on top has to be their french toast with bacon, a dish you’ll spot on the breakfast menu. I will never look at any french toast the same again.
I was pretty sad to say goodbye, but my trip was made a little less gloomy by hopping into the Ford Tourneo – a luxurious and spacious companion on any road trip.
If you’re heading to Plettenberg Bay and looking for a comfortable stay that provides your quintessential “barefoot luxury,” there’s no better option than The Bungalow (and a Ford!)
