Who doesn’t enjoy free things? If you love nature and you’ve added a few of South Africa’s incredible national parks to your travel bucket list, then you’re in luck.
National Parks Week will soon be upon us and is set to run from 11 September to 16 September – the perfect time to enjoy colourful wildflower fields and warmer weather.
Each year, SANParks waves entry fees goodbye and allows eager visitors to enter various parks across the country for free, as long as you’re visiting from Monday to Friday.
If you’re excited to view the wildflowers of Namaqua National Park or the cheeky African Penguins of Boulders Beach, you may be a little disappointed as entry fees for these “parks” will remain as is.
But, that doesn’t mean you cannot enjoy all that our beautiful province has to offer. Here are a few national parks to check out in September:
- Garden Route National Park
- West Coast National Park
- Table Mountain National Park
- Agulhas National Park
- Karoo National Park
If travel is on the list, then make sure you check out Kruger National Park and Addo Elephant National Park.
The initiative is aimed at providing residents with the opportunity to see some of South Africa’s incredible parks.
“This initiative aims to give the public an understanding of the role that SANParks plays as custodian of the country’s natural heritage. If we are to create a sense of ownership of the natural heritage of South Africa in all South Africans, then all South Africans must be able to have access to such,” said SANParks Acting Chief Executive Officer Hapiloe Sello in a statement.
“We especially want our young people to take advantage of this opportunity because this heritage will be under their protection in the near future.”
