You feel a pit in your stomach, blood is pounding in your ears and you can barely breathe. Then… you let go and a rush of adrenaline runs through your body.
There’s nothing quite like this all-natural high to give you a sense of accomplishment. And in the Cape, you get to experience this incredible feeling in some of the most beautiful settings in the world. For those who like living life to the extreme, these activities are a notch above your usual adventures.
1 Paragliding
The only thing better than soaking in the view at the top of Lion’s Head is running off the edge off of the cliff, soaring through the air and seeing the city below your feet. Cape Town Tandem Paragliding lets you do just that. You get to fly into the sky (strapped safely to a parachute of course) to experience the stunning view from a completely different angle – plus, you’ll get awesome pics and video footage to boot!

2 Sandboarding
Remember when you were a kid and used a cardboard box to ride down a hill? Sandboarding takes that super fun activity to a whole new level. Similar to snowboarding, sandboarding is relatively easy to pick up and is a great way to enjoy the outdoors. The best spot to do this is Atlantis Dunes, which has great slopes for boarding and showing off your killer moves. Sidewinder Adventures offers sandboarding tours that include gear and a helpful guide to show you the ropes if you’re new to the sport.

3 Coasteering
Forget paddling close to the shore. Coasteering lets you explore the inter-tidal zones of the ocean by snorkelling, swimming and, best of all, rock jumping! Gravity offers this relatively new adventure sport in stunning Simon’s Town, close to Boulder’s Beach, so there’s a good chance you’ll get to see some penguins in the water.

4 Abseil off Table Mountain
How often do you get to abseil down an official Natural Wonder of the World? Take a cable car to the top of Table Mountain, get roped up with Abseil Africa then get ready to make your way down its slopes. You’ll be abseiling from 1 000m above sea level and experiencing the mountain in a whole new light.
