Hiking enthusiasts, take note! The City of Cape Town has had to make a tough decision this year. The beloved Steenbras River Gorge and Crystal Pools hiking trails will remain closed for the entire hiking season.
Why? The recent storm during the long weekend in September caused extensive damage, leading to severe flooding in the Steenbras Nature Reserve and along Clarence Drive near Gordon’s Bay.

As a result, portions of the Steenbras River Gorge and Crystal Pools hiking trails have been washed away, making it unsafe for hikers.
The City sincerely regrets this closure and hopes to undertake the necessary repairs as soon as possible. Until then, nature enthusiasts are encouraged to explore alternative trails, such as the Danie Miller hiking trail in Gordon’s Bay, which is open but requires caution due to strong flowing streams and slippery rocks.
