The infamous orca pair Port and Starboard were recently captured by Amber Land on a trip with Simon’s Town Boat Company.

“We don’t always get the opportunity to share orca sightings with our guests, as most orca encounters are incidental, and they’re always on the move at speed – it’s very much about being at the right place at the right time,” the boating company said on Facebook.

“Our 10.30am trip coincided perfectly with a reported sighting of the famous duo, Port & Starboard and we were able to spend most of the 2.5 hour trip with them as well as managing to include a couple of humpback whales as the cherry on top. On the sea, not every day is a ‘Planet Earth day’, but today was pretty much up there!”

Port and Starboard are both males and are estimated to be about 20 years old. They frequent South Africa’s water every year during their migration from the Antarctic waters between June and December.
