#HighburyHearsYou – we at Cape Town Etc are passionate about getting local restaurants back and booming in business. As part of our #HighburyHearsYou initiative, we’re dishing out the deets on some incredible restaurants in and around town.

The Pelican is famous in Hout Bay for their breakfasts, crepes, ribs, coffee (Deluxe Coffeeworks) and a chilled vibe on the deck under shaded trees with funky music and super friendly staff.

The fan-favourite breakfasts include: The Full Pelican, Huevos Rancheros, smashed Avo on sourdough with smoked salmon and a range of egg, and Benedict’s with homemade hollandaise.

In winter, the creamy oats with honey, banana and praline butter is a real winner.

Crepes include meaty, vegetarian or sweet options. The crowning glory for the sweet-toothed Capetonian is the Alice in Wonderland. Think Nutella, vanilla ice cream, berries, toasted almonds sprinkled with icing sugar, all served in a vanilla batter crepe!

Ribs are served from noon Wednesday to Sunday. They are slow-cooked in apple juice then grilled over flames to tender perfection and served in a lip-smacking sauce. Rustic and sweet potato fries are also available with their special seasoning, or a house salad for something light and fresh.

On their menu are also juices, smoothies and health bowls.  Health bowls are a base of roasted Mexican or Asian-style vegetables to which you add your choice of extra toppings. The Pelican also serves a range of home-baked cakes and Kristen’s kick-ass ice cream (including a vegan option).

In winter they offer satisfying soups in front of a log fire, or close to a heater on an outdoor deck. Perfect for a glass of red wine!

The Pelican is licensed and open from 7:15am (8am Saturdays and Sundays) to 5pm (7pm on Friday) and they are pet friendly. Be sure to bring fluffy along for the experience.
