World-famous tennis legend Roger Federer has finally landed in the Mother City ahead of his epic battle against Rafael Nadal at Cape Town Stadium on February 7.

The legendary tennis star was welcomed by excited fans and media as his plane rolled into Cape Town International Airport. He arrived with a big smile on his face and an equal amount of enthusiasm for the days ahead. Federer addressed the media at a conference right after he landed, expressing his excitement for the upcoming match.

Federer happily answering questions ahead of the big match.

When asked about whether he watched the Springboks win the Rugby World Cup, he sheepishly admits that he forgot the match was on and went to the hairdresser during that time. “I ended up watching the match while getting a haircut!” he says laughingly. “Then I walked out, and on a sidewalk in Zurich I watched the trophy being lifted. I was getting all emotional.”

The star-studded match will finally take place this weekend on February 7 with a full day of festivities planned, including performances by the Ndlovu Youth Choir and the Zip Zap Circus.

Local comedian Trevor Noah and American business magnate Bill Gates will also take to the court in a doubles match against the legendary pair during the course of the day.

As preparations for the big day begin, locals are reminded to take note of road closures and various transports options available from Friday.

The anticipated match against Rafael Nadal, who lands in SA tomorrow, is expected to obtain a new record for attendance at Cape Town Stadium with fans from far and wide ready to see their idols take to the court.
