Nestled on the slopes of Table Mountain, a beautiful garden oasis sits. It offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, with the convenience of still being on popular Kloof Street. With a four-star rating, Rosedene Guest House offers a sense of tranquility and peace to its guests.
It was established by a yacht captain called Nick, who stopped in Cape Town during a cruise around the world and immediately fell in love with the city’s never-ending beauty. His goal was to create a guesthouse that would feel like a home away from home, which he achieved immaculately.
Strolling along the wooden walkways leaves one feeling one with nature. The property is located on what once was a rose farm, with a gorgeous manor house comprising of 10 deluxe rooms. The best part of the house, is the magnificent views of both the mountain and the port.
The rooms are warm with the earthy colour scheme of brown, red and orange. Each room is equipped with a kettle and a selection of coffees, teas and snacks. Other amenities include a tv, complimentary bottle of wine and air conditioning.
A rooftop terrace provides sweeping views of the residential area of Higgovale with its neat, white houses. Take in Table Mountain in all her glory as you sip your morning coffee. On a clear day, you will be able to watch the famous Cableway cable cars trundling up and down the mountain. The ground floor leads to a beautiful courtyard/garden area, which opens up onto a decked splash pool. Parents are advised to keep an eye on children aged 16 and under at the pool area.
Rosedene also has several cottages with access to the tranquil rose gardens. The cottages fall into different price range, offering an option for everyone – from a family looking for a staycation, to friends who want a comfortable place to call home while they party up a storm in Cape Town’s nearby CBD, or lovers who want a secluded getaway.
Breakfast is served in a glassed area, where you can gaze at the mountain as you enjoy your meal. Dietary requirements are requested upon booking, and the staff at Rosedene will ensure that they cater to all your dietary needs. A full Continental buffet spread is available between 7.30 – 9.30am every morning, as well as a delicious hot English breakfast.
The community surrounding the guest house is tight-knit as it is located in a residential area. There are vigilant Neighbourhood Watch patrols at all hours of the day. Their meetings are often hosted on the ground floor of the main house, and wine is laid out, offering guests a chance to mingle with the locals. It adds to an authentic Cape Town welcome.
Leaving Rosedene is a sad affair – comparable to leaving home – the warm staff and atmosphere are sure to draw you back for another visit.
