South Africa’s first Michelin star chef, Jan-Hendrik van der Westhuizen, has scooped up a Michelin star for the fourth year in a row thanks to his wildly popular restaurant in Nice, titled JAN.

The chef made the announcement yesterday in a video he shared on Facebook, acknowledging his team and thanking them for another successful year while beaming from ear to ear.

Van der Westhuizen spends his time between the South of France and South Africa, plying his trade as a chef, creative and photographer. His main focus, however, is JAN, which received a Michelin star in 2016, 2017, 2018, and now 2019.

His announcement received well over 200 comments, with South Africans expressing their pride and congratulating him and his team.

Van der Westhuizen is doing locals proud as he introduces much-loved South African cuisine as well as wines to France’s gastronomes.

It just goes to show that our chefs are nothing but top-class.
