Two of South Africa’s most iconic athletes came together in the Mother City to spend a day out in the waves. Springbok captain Siya Kolisi and future olympic surfer Jordy Smith bonded over a surfing lesson in Cape Town on Wednesday, January 26.

Smith will soon be the first South African to compete in surfing at the Olympic Games to be held in Japan later this year and took some advice from Kolisi on how to secure the win.

Before they took to the waters Smith gave Kolisi his very own surfboard custom-made by his father, Graham Smith.

Despite the strong winds the stellar athlete proved that he doesn’t just have talent on the field and picked up the basics of surfing in record time.

Many locals across the country felt united thanks to the unbelievable performance of the Springboks at the Rugby World Cup 2019 and seeing theses two athletes from different backgrounds coming together brings a similar feeling to mind.
