A video showing the kindness and compassion of a stranger who buys a woman asking for just R2 a whole trolley full of groceries is inspiring many.
The now viral video – with nearly 2-million views, shows a woman approaching a man for. She asks if he can spare R2 so she can buy food and tells him she lives in Greenfields. The man decides to spare a lot more than just R2 and takes her on a shopping spree.
In the video the woman can be seen beaming with happiness as she shops alongside the friendly stranger who encourages her to take the big peanut butter and the big box of milk.
Since its initial post date on October 15, 2019, the video shared by Facebook user BI Phakathi has garnered over 9 000 comments and nearly 42 000 shares.
At first the woman shops sparingly, only taking a few things like cheese and tomatoes but once she receives reassurance from the friendly stranger she fills her trolley and smiles from ear to ear.
Cape Town is home to countless people who have no place to call their own. Locals are often harsh or untrusting to give even R2 to those in need, but this Good Samaritan decided to give all he could for someone he didn’t know at all.
It is clear in the video how a simple trip to the grocery store means the world to those in need, something that is often undervalued by many. Capetonians and people from all over have been touched by this amazing selfless act.
After their visit to the store, the man gives her money for the taxi, hugs her and wishes her well.
