Dubbed the biggest awards show of the year, Kfm 94.5 invited the people of Cape Town to vote across 30 categories for the 2022 Best of the Cape Awards. No funny business, just you choosing the Mother City’s finest. And Cape {town} Etc is adding to the gees by proudly supporting each winner.
Stay tuned: over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing a full feature story on each of your favourites. Ready for the ultimate view from the top? This is the ‘Best Tourist Attraction’ in Cape Town:
The best tourist attraction winner: Table Mountain Aerial Cableway
Table Mountain is without a doubt one of Cape Town’s most adored natural landmarks, and has been named one of the New7Wonders of Nature (among various other accolades). The Eifel Tower of the Mother City, if you will – but better. Locals love it and tourists travel from far and wide to catch a glimpse of the giant rock which anchors our spectacular city.
Illuminated in sunlight or robed in clouds – forming the iconic tablecloth – it’s beautiful. The beating heart of Cape Town, Table Mountain is not only stunning, but provides locals and visitors with endless opportunities for adventure.

There’s no better way to set sights on our city than from its peak, and getting to the top is an experience in itself. Pick one of the multiple hiking trails or ditch the leg and lung burn with an epic cableway journey to the top.
Hiking Platterklip is no joke, and the 360° views from the comfort of a cable car is truly a unique offering. It’s no wonder Table Mountain Aerial Cableway has been crowned Cape Town’s ‘Best Tourist Attraction’. It’s safe, scenic and a must-do when in Cape Town.
The ride takes about 5 minutes one way, and you’ll be 3,500ft above the city at the top.
In addition to the world-class views is a bunch of other lekker offerings:
Eat and drink:
At the top, adventurers can enjoy a steaming cuppa, snacks or a meal at the café. Back down to earth at the base, there’s the TAP bar, perfect for sinking a local craft beer.

Class in the clouds:
Trade your classroom in for the day and take part in a Class in the Clouds educational experience.
In 2001, the company started the initiative for primary and high schools. Since its inception, more than 250 000 learners have participated.
Class in the Clouds gives learners an opportunity to not only experience the beauty of Table Mountain, but also learn about fauna and flora in a natural setting.

Events:
Table Mountain Aerial Cableway hosts a bunch of cool events throughout the year. From open cinema experiences to speed-dating evenings and the esteemed #CablewayCharityChallenge, there’s a way for everyone to get involved. Keep an eye on tablemountain.net/our-blog for the latest.
A local favourite, the company offers a free ride for South Africans on your birthday. The offer is valid on any day of the calendar month in which your birthday falls. Make sure to pack your ID for verification.
The ultimate experience:
Operating since 1929, millions of people have flocked to experience this unique offering. It’s an absolute treat for anybody visiting the Mother City, and a fantastic way for locals to fall in love with the place we call home time and time again.
The Cableway is generally quieter in the afternoon, so we encourage you to buy an afternoon ticket, which is valid from 1pm onwards. A late afternoon ticket also means that you will most likely catch the sunset.
