While news of The Fireman’s Arms blaze has left many Capetonians heartsore, those who were regulars will be pleased to know that its two stalwart cats Babelas and Sesame are safe and sound.

Speaking to TimesLIVE, owner Dean Kadir said that the cause of the fire seems to be electrical, and while the beer garden is gone, the interior has been spared.

He also added that one of the bars will hopefully be up and running by the weekend.

The pub has been serving patrons since it was first established in 1864, and its regulars were mainly sailors and tradesmen. The pub has undergone renovations and improvements over the years while keeping the original building and ambiance.

The pub will also be operating as normal from tomorrow onwards.
