A new chapter begins as one of the Winelands most legendary hotel properties is set to open its doors on 01 February 2022. The news of the opening of the iconic Lord Charles Hotel couldn’t come at a better time for the local events, hospitality, and tourism sector with exceptionally good news to end the year with.
Historically, the Lord Charles has made its mark on the South African MICE sector as an exceptional conference space. The venue capacity, business services and room quantities have made it one of the most popular hotel & conferencing facilities in the Winelands since opening its doors in 1988.
Come 2022 the property will boast an impressive refurbishment and facilities upgrade from interior design to landscaping. Rooms are looking exquisite and the rolling lawns, tennis courts, wedding venue and all other recreational facilities have had a serious facelift and are looking pristine for its opening.
The hotel is now in the safe hands of a team of experienced local hospitality specialists who want to build on its legacy as the hotel of choice for leisure guests and business travellers alike.
The experienced team are committed to supporting the community including the broader Helderberg basin to ensure an enhanced guest experience. This includes sourcing (where possible) from local suppliers and hiring staff from the area.
This owner-managed organisational structure allows for flexibility in managing the day-to-day operations as well as making the decisive decisions needed to ensure the success of the Lord Charles Hotel beyond the next few decades.
One of the key managerial appointments has been the addition of seasoned hotelier, Julia Ward, joining The Lord Charles as the General Manager.
With more than three decades of experience in the hospitality industry both in South Africa and abroad, Julia is ready to help write the next chapter in the grand history of the hotel. Julia has extensive management experience at properties such as the renowned Fancourt Resort and has had many years of experience as the General Manager of Luxury Villas and Homes in Thailand, and with the Regent Hotel Group in both Bali and Montenegro.
Ward confirms that she is very keen to welcome as many of the former staff as possible after the previous operators retrenched the staff and withdrew operations. She comments, “The staff are the reason why guests return to the Lord Charles Hotel, and we will do our best to reach out and consider re-employing former staff, should they meet our requirements.”
Key to the property’s success is its new positioning strategy which will now maximise its leisure offering.
