TikTok, along with all its weirdness, wonder, and relatability is also a massive influencer. Said influence has splurged into every pocket of society, from the chunky rings dominating the accessory industry, to the way people are decorating their corners of the world. Its users have brought back Crocs from the grave, shown us the magic of rainbow lighting and even redefined how we want to drink water – (a normal bottle just seems insulting when you could get that h20 in a see-through milk carton at this point.)
Of course, discretion is always recommended (okay, maybe you don’t need to spend R500 on exotic candles). However, if Tiktok and its plethora of creativity have done anything – they’ve shown us just how exciting small and once understood as mundane items can actually be.
In honour of TikTok’s users bringing things we didn’t know we wanted to the forefront of our Christmas lists, here are a few cute, quirky and aesthetic finds that will definitely light up the day (sometimes quite literally) of someone you know who may as well get paid to use TikTok for all the time they spend there.
1. The Sunset Projector Lamp
@lillibethchen tiktok made buy it & I don‘t regret it at all #sunsetprojectionlamp #sunsetlamp #aliexpress #unboxing #foryou #fyp ♬ dancin in the dark – xxtristanxo
The ‘Sunset Projector Lamp’ became one of the most popular aesthetics on TikTok and had many of us asking ourselves, “how have I not had a sunset living in my room all this time?”

3. Chunky rings and rainbow necklaces
TikTok brought back fun to jewellery this year with a Y2K influence that has manifested into chunky rings and necklaces, which give off the same energy as the candy necklaces many of us once adored back in the day. If the person you’re shopping for loves accessories, rainbow-inspired items, and has subtly been dropping hints by complimenting anyone wearing items that match these descriptions, this is the gift they’re waiting for.

4. Candle art
There was a time when a candle was just a candle and we had a pretty solid idea of what that looked like. The days of the conventional candle are gone, and we are now living in the era of candle art. From gorgeous body figure candles to bubble candles and even smeg shaped ones, there’s a whole world waiting for the candle lover. And, since Eskom is still up to its antics, why not enjoy load shedding in some sort of style?
