In near perfect weather, the 49th edition of the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon enthralled spectators and participants alike, even prompting a marriage proposal at the finish line.

South African runners dominated the race on Saturday, taking the women’s Ultra as well as the men’s and women’s half marathon titles.

Gerda Steyn won the women’s Ultra, becoming only the second South African woman to win the race in 17 years. Her compatriot Charne Bosman finished third. Poland’s Dominika Stelmach was second.

Kenyan Justin Kemboi Chesire won the men’s Ultra. The 2014 champion Lebenya Nkoka of Lesotho was not far behind in second place, while the best placed South African was David Gatebe who finished third.
