The accolades seem to keep coming for Cape Town’s most prestigious higher education establishment: UCT was named the Coolest University in South Africa at the 2019 Sunday Times Gen Next Awards.

More than 7 000 South Africans between the ages of eight and 23 answer survey questions conducted by the HDI Youth Consultancy to determine what is trending each year.

This survey is considered the leading measurement of youths’ opinions in South Africa and a number of organisations are guided by the results of the survey in deciding on their marketing strategies aimed at youth.

This year the University of Cape Town was chosen as South Africa’s coolest university, coming in just above the University of Johannesburg and UNISA.

A number of new categories were included this year, with the intention of increasing insights for marketers and to better understand the country’s youth.

The survey respondents are broken into three categories, kids, teens and young adults. The answers from each category are then put together to provide an overall view.
