Cape Town is a particularly health-conscious city, and there has been a huge boom in the number of vegan and vegetarian eateries in the Mother City. As breakfast is viewed as the most important meal of the day, those who are plant-based should also be afforded a variety of restaurants to choose from to have their first meal of the day.

Here are some vegan and vegetarian spots that serve up a good brekkie:

The Sunshine Food Co.:

This vegan gem is located in Three Anchor Bay, and is known for their signature usage of sprouts in their dishes.

For a great way to kick off your day, be sure to order their Sunshine Veggie Wrap, which drips in a delicious cultured lemon sauce.

Schekter’s RAW:

One of the city’s most established and esteemed vegan eateries, Schekter’s RAW is home to the famous pumpkin pie flapjack stack. If you’re looking for something more colorful but equally yummy, order their unicorn flapjacks – either way, a meal here rarely disappoints.

PLANT:

This vegan café is well known for their yummy mushroom biltong, but another one of their best dishes is their breakfast rosti. This a stack of onion and potato patties served three ways – yummy.

The Conscious Kitchen:

This popular eatery’s menu is completely vegan, and are well-known for their delicious signature juices. Make sure to order the Flower Power juice, which has lavender, watermelon, cactuspear, fennel and lime.

They have a number of more traditional breakfast offerings, but their smoothie bowls are the real stars of the show. There are a number to choose from, but be careful – they’re all so delicious that you may be stuck with analysis paralysis.

There are two locations to choose from – Kloof Street and Observatory.
