Damaging waves, snow, wind and a waterspout. It’s been a wild couple of days for the Western Cape.
The Mother City has been waiting in anticipation for what could be the last few snow days before Spring arrives, but the rain continues to wash dustings away.

It’s been a seriously cold week, and snow has fallen at Matroosberg, a Private Nature Reserve 35km outside of Ceres.
Check out this snap taken yesterday:

But it wasn’t long-lasting. Rain and sunshine melted what snow did fall, but we agree with the folks at Matroosberg: 21mm of rain is a serious blessing.

This was Matroosberg today:

Even rarer than snow is a waterspout, and one occurred in Velddrif on 13 August. Velddrif is a coastal fishing town in the Bergrivier Local Municipality of the Western Cape.
A waterspout?
Waterspouts are extraordinary, impressive weather events. Essentially, it’s a spinning column of air that sucks up water, making a twisting funnel of water that connects the body of water on land to the sky.
