Weltevrede Wine Estate sits just outside of Bonnievale in the Robertson Wine Valley. This month, the family-owned estate announces the opening of its recently launched Kapokbos Restaurant.
Weltevrede was announced the winner of the Architecture & Landscape and the Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences categories at the Great Wine Capitals Best Of Wine Tourism Awards (BOWTA) 2023 for Cape Town & the Cape Winelands.
Kapokbos Restaurant is located on the estate and overlooks the rose-and-vine garden. The restaurant takes its name from an indigenous herb, Kapokbos, found in the veld that surrounds the estate.
The restaurant is run by husband and wife Juan Fourie and Samantha (Sam) Morris-Fourie. The power couple encourages a belief in the ethos and concept of Weltevrede Wine Estate.
“Sam and I are excited about the direction the Estate is heading and really thrilled to be joining the Weltevrede Wine Estate family”, said Juan Fourie.
“After years of being nomads, we have now firmly rooted ourselves here and we’ve devised menus that present contemporary country-style cuisine incorporating local tastes, culture and creativity.”

Weltevrede Wine Estate has also recently had an extensive re-development to improve its visitors’ experiences.
The estate now offers a world-class visitor centre open for tastings as well as underground tours. During these tours, guests can learn about the history of Chardonnay and view old books, artworks and memorabilia showcasing the heritage of winemaking.
There are activities for children and a new kid’s play area along with the new Kapokbos Restaurant.
The restaurant is open on Tuesdays to Sundays from 12pm to 4pm, with the last seating at 3pm. From 4 November, it will also be open on Fridays and Saturdays for dinner from 6pm to 10pm, with the last seating at 8pm.
Kapokbos serves contemporary country cuisine, with traditional dishes on offer such as South African Skaap Stertjie with curried pickle onions and Frikkadels with tomato smoor.
Reviews have been very flattering with people raving about its deluxe cuisines, panoramic views, stylish interior and luxury wine.
A customer says, “what a treat! Beautiful food with service and views to match,” with another describing the restaurant as “exquisitely presented and indulgently, delicious dishes. I wanted everything on the menu! The venue, ambience, views and our waiter were all superb.”
Weltevrede Wine Estate is one of South Africa’s oldest wine farms still owned and run by the same family. The Jonker family has been farming there for one hundred years.
