It’s that time of the year again when all the nerds, geeks and fans of pop culture come together in one place to dress up, shop and make new friends. FanCon is Cape Town’s very own version of Comic Con and this year is expected to be one for the books.

Here’s what you can expect at this year’s long-awaited convention:

1. Amazing Art

Watch talented local and international artists paint and sketch unbelievable works of art.

Convention-goers can even take home a few of their favourite comic books, anime or pop culture character sketches, cards or mementoes.

A large range of unique artworks will be on display in the artist alley.

2. Cool Costumes

Join the craze and dress up as one of your favourite characters from comic books, series, movies, games, or even anime.

Take pictures with other cool characters while you’re at it and you’re sure to see some amazing outfits.

This is the perfect time to take the little ones out in their favourite hero outfit or princess dress, too.

3. Geeky Goodies

Get your hands on some unusual geeky goodies you can’t get anywhere else.

A huge range of vendors will offer a large range of pop culture as well as one-of-a-kind merchandise at various stalls.

4. Bountiful Boardgames

If you or your little ones love boardgames, this is the section to head to, where you can trial and enjoy all kinds.

Play along with fellow enthusiasts and try new games before buying them at the board gaming section.

This is the perfect place to meet new friends and play your favourite games with like-minded players.

5. Panels and Prizes

While at the convention visitors can also enjoy a range of interesting talks and panels about comic book drawing and costume making.

Throughout the weekend there will also be a number of chances to win awesome prizes and compete in fun competitions, especially if you’re dressed up.

Tickets can be purchased at the door – the cost is R150 for a day pass – and the festivities will run from April 27 to 28.
