High tea, as we know, is steeped in history. The Duchess of Bedford, Anna Russel – a lifelong friend of Victoria, Queen of England – is said to have ‘invented’ the custom as a late-afternoon meal. Whatever its beginnings, it’s a timeless tradition that’s hardly changed in almost 200 years. Until now.
Introducing the Coco Safar High Tea by Night Voyage…
Coco Safar has reinvented the classic concept with its High Tea by Night Voyage. An equally balanced sweet-and-savoury culinary journey that’s served at night, it’s been created with globe-trotting foodies in mind. And two couples of two, lucky Cape {town} Etc readers could be some of the first to taste the journey.
Three years of refinement and evolution between Coco Safar founders Wilhelm Liebenberg and Caroline Sirois, and their New York based Executive Chef Rory MacDonald has gone into the immersive dining performance, ultimately marrying their iconic Dessert Bar Experience with the traditional high tea. Complete with cinematic audio-visual elements and hosted by uniformed staff reminiscent of a 1950s Pan Am flight, the art of flavour and theatre collide. Diners are transported beyond the dinner table to exotic travel destinations inspired by three cities.
After taking off in Cape Town, passengers fly to Paris, stop over in Istanbul, sweep into Shanghai, and then complete the round trip back in the Mother City. It’s a two-hour, first-class journey of immersive fun.
Guests are treated to personalised guéridon-style service by Coco Safar’s chefs, redolent of glamorous five-star hotels of the ’50s, yet fused with contemporary flair. The experience sets a new standard for modern dining, one that deliciously disrupts the comfort zones of the culinary world as we know it. Expect adventurous dishes such as cucumber spring rolls with basil mousse, smoked foie gras, potato millefeuille, ‘oysters’ and champagne with a twist, white chocolate yoghurt mousse with apple granita and pistachio, and an array of miniature French pâtisserie, to name a few.
The half-and-half savoury and sweet menu’s gastronomic delights are artfully paired with innovative drinks created by Coco Safar’s mixologists, as well as siphon-made botanical teas and slow-brewed single-origin coffees, made table-side for your viewing pleasure.
The concept of ‘journey’ is at the forefront of this adventure – a multitude of culinary explosions whisk palates and passports around the world without you leaving your seat. A cornucopia of mind-blowing, bite-sized gems awaits. With extraordinary new high tea travel routes introduced every season, Coco Safar brings the world to your table with this extraordinary Night Voyage.
