Nature Connect announced that its Sustainable Schools Programme has won gold in the Eco-Community category at the 2025 Eco-Logic Awards.
This national accolade recognises the programme’s success in transforming schools into vibrant centres of sustainability, learning and community action.
The Eco-Logic Awards celebrate initiatives that make a tangible difference to the world using ecological thinking and design. Sustainable Schools was honoured for its innovative, collaborative approach to environmental education and Education for Sustainable Development.

Launched in 2021, the programme positions schools as anchors for community-driven sustainability, equipping teachers and learners with the tools, knowledge and confidence to implement practical projects that extend far beyond the classroom.
Through a dynamic blend of in-person workshops, coaching, and an interactive online hub, the programme creates a network where collaboration thrives. Teachers have access to:
- Cross-curricular CAPS-aligned lesson plans
- Practical tools
- Workshops
- Peer-learning opportunities
This approach ensures that sustainability becomes embedded in school communities and everyday learning.
Since its inception, Sustainable Schools has reached over 200 schools, 3000 educators and 70 000 learners across six provinces; implementing over 600 sustainability projects that have improved local ecosystems and strengthened resilience.
Each project represents a step towards a future where young people lead the way in caring for the planet.
