A major police and emergency response is underway in Kayamandi, Stellenbosch, after seven people, including two South African Police Service (SAPS) officers, were shot today, Cape {town} Etc reports.
The shooting unfolded in 7th Avenue, Kayamandi, at around 6 pm on 26 July, with emergency services rushing to the scene following reports of multiple gunshot victims. The incident broke on social media, such as the Belhar Community Safety group on WhatsApp.
According to initial reports from the scene, seven people sustained gunshot wounds. Two of the victims, including the SAPS officers, have been declared code blue, indicating they showed no signs of life, while the remaining five victims were classified as code red and required urgent medical treatment.
Emergency responders are continuing to work in the area amid reports of a second round of active shooting in the same neighbourhood.
The unfolding situation has prompted a significant emergency response, with medical personnel and law enforcement remaining on scene as they work to secure the area and assist the injured. The circumstances surrounding the shooting, including the motive and the identities of those involved, have not yet been confirmed.
