There are many reasons, moral or otherwise, that people choose to live a vegan or even vegetarian lifestyle, but finding a restaurant or cafe that ticks all your boxes can be difficult, and often you may end up compromising your ideology. Unless you’re eating at The Conscious Kitchen of course.

The Conscious Kitchen (TCK) is a plant-based juice bar & cafe that promises to provide its customers with the most conscious way of eating, producing and consuming. TCK wants to provide more than just a service as the main aim of their manifesto is to create an awakening in the consciousness of how your meal came to be on your plate.

TCK has created a sanctuary for anyone who is trying to reduce their impact on the planet and the creatures we share it with. It’s a safe space for people who want to make more moral and eco-friendly choices in their daily lives. On top of keeping your environmental consciousness happy, your bodily health is also a top priority to TCK as meals are mostly plant-based and free of processed foods and sugars.

TCK refuses to use plastic and other non-biodegradable packaging. They pride themselves on their recycling drive and their endeavour to limit waste as much as possible, so be sure to bring your bank card or have Snapscan loaded on your phone. The cafe also sources all of its products locally and tries to keep things organic as much as possible.

Although the ethos of TCK is that the future is 100% vegan, they do offer dairy milk alternatives and free-range eggs for those still transitioning towards being fully vegan.

TCK has a diverse menu with some really interesting options both to eat and drink. I nervously decided to go for the Bulletproof Coffee, a chilli-infused coffee made with coconut oil, and I was deeply satisfied with the beverage writes Cape {town} etc’s James Redman. The waffles are magnificent too!

TCK also offers three juice cleanses; Deep, Deeper and Deepest. The cleanse can last up to five days during which you consume one shot and six juices throughout the day. Theses fluids are stacked with vitamins and minerals that will detox your body and boost your immune system.

TCK has two stores, one on Kloof Street and the other one on Lower Main road in Observatory.
