Open Design is a 12-day festival that celebrates the value of design and innovation in South Africa’s economic, environmental and social growth.

With stigma attached to the utility of design, the festival denounces these beliefs by showing how it can have a positive impact on South African society through improving on living standards, building human capital and creating jobs.

This year’s festival is themed ‘Design is for tomorrow’ and aims to empower local youths by providing them with necessary skills and career guidance, to nurture potential leaders and to transform passive Capetonians into responsive, participating citizens.

Activities included in the line-up are wide-ranging from Design Career Workshops for high school learners and exhibitions to numerous pop-up shops, pingpong competitions and bicycle tours.
